2010

Happy New Years!

Wishing everyone a happy 2010! This time last year Ben and I found out we were having a baby, had no jobs, but a lot of hope. This year we are finishing our 1st year of Kitty Baby Love with an official count of 596 sales on etsy alone and over 12 wholesale accounts. Not to mention we are raising the most amazing little boy on the planet. (He started feeding himself multigrain Cheerios today!)

We have lots of continued optimism for our growing family and business for the next year. Thank you 2009 for smoothing out all the wrinkles for us and we look forward to what 2010 will bring.

7 month Anniversary

7 month Anniversary

Mikah is 7 months old (7 + 1.5 weeks actually!), has 4 teeth, and is a professional rugrat. He uses his potty regularly (Ben and I have limited the amount of poopy diapers to about 1 per week. It’s great.). If you don’t already know about it, do a quick google for elimination communication.

He has started solids and eats when we do… with plenty of breastmilk in between. We use the KidCo baby food mill and carry it with us when we know we’ll be out for a while. Mikah is also understanding drinking but has not grasped the concept of tilting the bottle or cup upward to get the fluid out. His favorite drink is coconut water. Yum!

In his spare time he can be found practicing his vocal range (as in volume) and using miscellaneous boxes as a prop to stand up. There is nothing more inspiring than watching the determination Mikah has to balance himself and stand. Ben and I are so excited for when he begins to take his first steps…

This was our first Christmas as a family. It was small and cozy and very peaceful and lovely. I don’t think either Ben or I have been happier than we are with each other and Mikah. We are tired, oh so very tired, but very content with life.

Wishing a safe and warm wintery season to everyone!

Occasionally we will do a google search for “kitty baby love” or “kitty egg” and see what comes up. This past time I came across a blog writer who received our Kitty Egg Crayons as a gift for her 2 year old. There are some cute pictures and the cutest story on how she laid the kitties down to make them “sleep.” We’re always so excited to hear about how our items are used from customers, so this was a real treat….

We have a new banner for the holiday wintery season…. check out Ben’s kitty reindeer. So cute!

Ben and I are retiring from craft shows for the rest of the year. Portland Saturday Market is actually doing a week long event up tilĀ  Dec. 24th that we were considering, but with 40F weather, rain, etc… I think it’s a better idea to pass.

This is our first Christmas with Kitty Baby Love and there was no way we could have anticipated the response we received from online sales. When we first started the business, we had hoped to get at least 365 sales by the end of the year… a sale a day. As of today we have 571 sales on etsy! It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that something we work so hard on is becoming successful. Mostly we are grateful for the opportunity of being work-at-home parents.

Mikah is already 7 months old, crawling around, and has 4 teeth. There are so many things we would have missed if either of us had to go away or he had to go to daycare. Instead we get to stay at home and be with him everyday. Thank you to all of our customers and supporters for this opportunity!

That’s right, a 4 day craft show in the middle of downtown. It will be tons of fun … and located conveniently next to a MAX line (free ticket or Smart Park Validation with $25 purchase) and a giant Christmas Tree!
The weekend Portland Saturday market will still be taking place next to SW Ankeny & Naito Pkwy. on Saturday & Sunday.

Ben & I will be doing market only on Saturday (tomorrow), will be at Pioneer Courthouse Square Tuesday – Friday, and will reexamine our energy and inventory to see if we will go back to market next Saturday or Sunday. Phew….

6 Month Anniversary

Our 6 month anniversay was actually last month, November 18th
Yes it’s been a while. We’ve been busy here with the online holiday rush of sales (which we have been very grateful for!) and the craft shows we are continuing to do. I thought I should probably post our photo at least before our 7 month anniversary.

I can’ believe how fast time is going with Mikah. I’m also in disbelief at how quickly he is growing. Babies in general grow so much in their first year of life, but Mikah is growing exponentially! At just 7 months, he wears 18-24 month old clothes. Thankfully Ben and I didn’t buy any baby clothes- everything was donated/passed down to us. Of those items, we’ve already passed on about 80% of it, most of them Mikah never wore.

He is also starting to get the hang of crawling and sitting up unsupported. It’s such a joy to be able to watch him grow here at home. Even though sometimes things get hectic managing business, family, 3 kitties, and our home- it is all worth it when we see his smile.

I love stationary so much. It’s hard to resist buying anything now that the holidays are around the corner.. stores are packed with all sorts of seasonal papers and ribbons. Ben and I spotted some red, yellow, green & gold (kitty baby love colors!) things and decided to pick up a few items. They are now available on our etsy shop as an upgraded gift wrap option.

I think they really make the packages festive. I also noticed a couple of feedback comments on how cute our packaging was, but since it was a gift, how they didn’t want to open to ruin the wrapping before giving it away. So now there is another option….

When the upgrade is selected, the purchased item will come in a simple wrapping accompanied by all the packaging extras. Perfect so you can admire the kitty eggs before wrapping them up for the gift recipient.
If that isn’t a concern to you, you can always just have it sent to you (or directly to the recipient) all wrapped and ready to put under the tree or in a stocking. That means more time for you to do other preparations.

While our supplies last, they will be available here for $2.
