Happy Holidays

December 4th, 2009 | Posted by Kitty Baby Love in Craft Shows | Etsy | Family Life - (0 Comments)

We have a new banner for the holiday wintery season…. check out Ben’s kitty reindeer. So cute!

Ben and I are retiring from craft shows for the rest of the year. Portland Saturday Market is actually doing a week long event up til  Dec. 24th that we were considering, but with 40F weather, rain, etc… I think it’s a better idea to pass.

This is our first Christmas with Kitty Baby Love and there was no way we could have anticipated the response we received from online sales. When we first started the business, we had hoped to get at least 365 sales by the end of the year… a sale a day. As of today we have 571 sales on etsy! It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that something we work so hard on is becoming successful. Mostly we are grateful for the opportunity of being work-at-home parents.

Mikah is already 7 months old, crawling around, and has 4 teeth. There are so many things we would have missed if either of us had to go away or he had to go to daycare. Instead we get to stay at home and be with him everyday. Thank you to all of our customers and supporters for this opportunity!

We’ve been busy catching up with orders coming in for the holiday season as well as preparing for our craft shows. Portland Saturday Market was busy today. Lots of families, friends, and animals enjoying the non-rainy and decently cool weather.

Come enjoy another lovely day in Portland at Pioneer Square tomorrow, Sunday the 29th.

You can visit the official website for Pioneer Square (with a live webcam too).

We’ll be one of the first booths you see when entering in from 6th Ave. See you there!

Portland Saturday Market

September 7th, 2009 | Posted by Kitty Baby Love in Craft Shows - (0 Comments)

Hooray, we got accepted into Portland, Oregon’s Saturday Market!! We actually found out this past Wednesday but plan to attend and sell the show this upcoming weekend. We have zero inventory right now and need to build it back up so we aren’t sitting at the market empty handed!

It’s very exciting and a bit scary as well. What if we don’t sell anything at the market? Even though we visited a few times since moving to Portland and feel that we would be a good fit, there is always potential of not being received well. We’re crossing our fingers that this will work out for us in our endeavor to be full-time crafters and work-at-home parents.

As part of our efforts to build inventory, we also visited our local SCRAPS reuse center. Unfortunately for us they don’t carry egg cartons like the one in SF Bay did!! (Side note: If you have a lot of egg cartons you can donate, we’d be happy to do an exchange for a set of Kitty Egg Crayons… please contact us) We were rather disappointed but still left with some goodies, including this set of cards featuring the Saturday Market. What a coincidence and a total steal at just $0.50!

I think the drawings are beautiful and capture the lively energy that can be found at Saturday Market… click on the images for larger versions.

Our scheduled debut at the market is this upcoming Sunday, September 13th. If you’re in the area, please visit us!

The back of the cards read “Every Saturday and Sunday, more than 250 independent artists and craftspersons gather in Portland, Oregon’s historic Old Town for Portland Saturday Market. Visitors stroll through a myriad of handcrafted arts, crafts and foods on display at the largest continuously operating open-air marketplace for handcrafts in the country, while entertainers juggle, eat fire, play piano, sing and dance.

Renegade Craft Fair SF

“San Francisco here we come, right back where we started from…”

Wow what a great experience! It was our very first craft fair and while we drew the short straw as far as location goes (we were Allll the way in the back of the warehouse), we had a rather successful 2 days. It was so great to see all the smiles from the adults and kids who loved our table and items. It was also fun to see other sellers and what they had to offer. The environment was really friendly and full of energy. We are quite drained now that it is over!

The foot traffic was great at the show so Ben and I spent most of our time at our table and didn’t have much time to enjoy the show leisurely for shopping, however we did come away with a few souvenirs…

This item was a trade with one of our boothmates, JeynReyn

JeynReyn Credit Card Holder

It’s a credit card holder! Comes with cute little card inserts including a fake debit card from WaPoo… get it?

The next item was our only purchase from the show, and a great one at that!
Is it a giant pencil?

Pacific Puzzleworks Pencil Puzzle

No! It’s a puzzle!! From Pacific Puzzleworks.

I am personally a HUGE fan of puzzles so I was thrilled when I saw this. There were more complicated puzzles but I thought this one would be good for Mikah… in 6 years or so. I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get it, so until Mikah is old enough to play with it, Ben and I will have fun with it for him.

Last item we took away was a photo from the free photo booth.

I didn’t have time to stop breastfeeding. This was taken at the end of the last day, so we look really tired. Nonetheless, it’s a great souvenir and marks our first (successful) craft show.

Last but not least, visit our booth mate’s blog, Mama’s Magic Studio, about lesson’s learned from the craft show. This last photo of us was taken by her- the only one we have of our booth!

Bowling for Cats

bowling for kitties

In addition to chalkboard kitty (which is now cut out in wood- Just needs to be sanded and painted and assembled…….) we’re doing a new item- a bowling set! I am very excited for it.
We have big plans for these little ones… now if only we can make more time to finish them.

The front ‘pin’ is a test that Ben did. I was thinking we could offer them in natural wood finish and also in limited edition painted versions. It would be fun to continually think of new themes. Ben and I tossed around a few ideas… Alice in Wonderland, Star Trek, Harry Potter, bowling pins….
Submit an idea to us and maybe we’ll use it!

The background signage is what we will be using for our craft show. It’s chalkboard paint on one of Ben’s handmade and stretched canvases. The little front painted wood piece is for the price, which is yet to be determined.

Here’s another photo with our new signage + the Boo Boo Kitties.

Chalkboard Kitty

Something is brewing in the house of Kitty Baby Love!

Ideally we will have these ready in time for a debut at the Renegade Craft Show, but with time, transportation, and financial limitations, Who knows what will happen…
So, after staring at a can of chalkboard paint I recently bought, Ben came to me with an idea….

Chalkboard Kitty

After shooting back and forth ideas, we finally decided that it will look something like….

Chalkboard Kitty

We’re very excited for it. Stick around for updates and progress reports :)

We also got our 6′ table yesterday and decided to set it up in the living room- so we can look at it and play with the display. We like the look, but still need to fill it with merchandise.. As you can see, we still have a lot more work to do.

Recovering from giving birth has been quite the journey! It feels like I haven’t been able to move around for a year, even though it feels like Mikah is still just a week old. It’s been 3.5 weeks already! How time flies…

Now that I do have more mobility, I’ve started preparing for a craft show Ben and I will be doing this July. We really planned to start preparing sooner, but you know… baby and all :)

We’ll be in the Renegade Craft Show when it comes to San Francisco. We’re really excited because of the scale of the event. A bit nervwracking as well since, at this point in time, we are as unprepared for this as you can get.

Ben and I have designated tomorrow, Monday, as our official *Let’s Get Busy and Start CRAFTING!* Day. We got a small headstart on it this weekend though…

Ben has a few woodblock prints he’s carved but has not printed (for whatever reason). This is one of them- Breastfeeding Kitty!
We’ll be making a few cards out of them and selling them at the craft show as well as in our shop soon. He did a blue and yellow colorway. We like the yellow best.
