Halloween Special

Here’s one of those coupons I mentioned earlier to use. It’s for our Halloween Special… I know it’s past Halloween but better late than never!

For Halloween Ben and I dressed up as a wizard and witch and did the Portland Saturday Market. The day started OK but then it rained a ton. It was a long day for us, although we did get to enjoy a good amount of morning trick-or-treaters who nearly picked us dry for candy (we only had kisses left at the end of the day) and drew some faces for our pumpkin kittyhead.

No costume pictures unfortunately but it was a surprisingly handsome yet thrifty ensemble. Ben and I bought 2 graduation gowns + a witches hat from the Goodwill for $20 total. Ben used 1 gown as his wizard’s robe, and I cut the 2nd robe in half. The top half went to use as a capelet for my witches outfit and the lower half to make ben a wizard cone hat. Some paper star cutouts and a twig later, Ben has a complete outfit. As for me I just tied some ribbon to hold my capelet together and wore some witchy jewelry and viola! 20 minute costumes.

It was fun doing the market in our outfits although as soon as we got home Ben and I had some dinner, and then Mikah and I passed out for the rest of the night! Maybe next year we’ll have more energy.
Till then, we can enjoy our leftover kisses..

Portland Saturday Market

September 7th, 2009 | Posted by Kitty Baby Love in Craft Shows - (0 Comments)

Hooray, we got accepted into Portland, Oregon’s Saturday Market!! We actually found out this past Wednesday but plan to attend and sell the show this upcoming weekend. We have zero inventory right now and need to build it back up so we aren’t sitting at the market empty handed!

It’s very exciting and a bit scary as well. What if we don’t sell anything at the market? Even though we visited a few times since moving to Portland and feel that we would be a good fit, there is always potential of not being received well. We’re crossing our fingers that this will work out for us in our endeavor to be full-time crafters and work-at-home parents.

As part of our efforts to build inventory, we also visited our local SCRAPS reuse center. Unfortunately for us they don’t carry egg cartons like the one in SF Bay did!! (Side note: If you have a lot of egg cartons you can donate, we’d be happy to do an exchange for a set of Kitty Egg Crayons… please contact us) We were rather disappointed but still left with some goodies, including this set of cards featuring the Saturday Market. What a coincidence and a total steal at just $0.50!

I think the drawings are beautiful and capture the lively energy that can be found at Saturday Market… click on the images for larger versions.

Our scheduled debut at the market is this upcoming Sunday, September 13th. If you’re in the area, please visit us!

The back of the cards read “Every Saturday and Sunday, more than 250 independent artists and craftspersons gather in Portland, Oregon’s historic Old Town for Portland Saturday Market. Visitors stroll through a myriad of handcrafted arts, crafts and foods on display at the largest continuously operating open-air marketplace for handcrafts in the country, while entertainers juggle, eat fire, play piano, sing and dance.
